Our Ambassadors & Champions

Tony Welsby

Tony serves as an ambassador for Aftermath with deep commitment and authenticity, shaped by the devastating loss of his son, Jordan aged just 26 years. On Boxing Day 2020, Jordan was struck as a pedestrian by a motor vehicle and killed, a tragedy that changed Tony’s life forever. In the years since, Tony has channelled his grief into meaningful action, supporting others affected by road death and serious injury with empathy, strength, and lived understanding.

After a 30-year career with Merseyside Police, Tony retrained as a therapist, and is soon to launch his own business ‘FrontLineMinds PLC’ driven by a desire to help people navigate trauma, loss, and emotional distress. His professional background, combined with his personal experience, allows him to offer grounded, compassionate support to individuals and families facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Tony volunteers as a Champion for Aftermath, raising awareness, offering peer support, and helping to ensure that no family feels alone in the aftermath of a road tragedy. He also serves as a trustee for the ThinBlueLineUK charity, supporting the wellbeing of police officers and their families across the country.

Tony enjoys spending time with family, travel, walking and rugby league and brings a powerful voice to Aftermath’s mission. His work reflects both his resilience and his commitment to creating safer roads, providing emotional and practical support for all those affected by road related incidents, creating stronger support networks, and a more understanding community for those affected by sudden loss

Dave Jones and his brother

Dave Jones

Dave is a retired civil servant who spends his time supporting his family, his elderly Mum and riding his bike. Dave is also a champion of our cause and ambassador of Aftermath Support and our work after receiving our help in 2019. Dave’s brother, Si, was involved in a collision with a car when out riding his bike in Wirral. Si had suffered a brain injury due to lack of oxygen and after several days in intensive care, the machines keeping Si alive were switched off. Since then, Dave has gone through his own personal journey dealing with the tragic loss of his brother.

Dave misses his brother every day but now looks at things differently and after 20 years helping people in the civil service, he wants to help people who are going through what he went through after the death of his brother. Dave says, “If I can help one person then my brother’s death meant something”. Dave has since helped many people as an Aftermath supporter and Ambassador, he has fundraised for the charity and has appeared on the Northwest Tonight programme talking about his experience and the help he received from Aftermath Support. Dave also supports us at Police CPD days/events talking about his experience and the help he received.

If you are passionate about our cause and want to learn more about us or get involved and support the Charity in some way like our supporters and ambassadors, please get in touch.

Rebecca Slater

Rebecca Slater

Becca is a Strongwoman Champion and world record holder from Liverpool. Known as “Liverpool’s Strongest Disabled Woman”, she has overcome immense adversity and inspired many with her incredible strength and determination. In 2017, Becca was involved in a devastating car crash that resulted in the loss of her right arm above the elbow. Becca’s right ankle also sustained major fractures which has required multiple surgeries over the years and her having to re-learn how to walk. However, she refused to let these life-altering injuries define or limit her and discovered her passion for Strongwoman and quickly excelled in the sport. Since then, Becca has been crowned Merseyside Inspirational Woman of the Year in 2019 and back-to-back British and world champion by breaking 5 world records to become the World’s Strongest Disabled Woman.

With an unwavering drive and unshakeable confidence, Rebecca Slater continues to defy expectations and challenge perceptions of what’s possible for disabled athletes and those recovering from catastrophic injuries after a road crash. Her remarkable achievements have made her a trailblazer and role model in the world of strength sports and an ambassador of Aftermath Support Charity, it’s values and it’s work towards hope and recovery in post-crash support.
