Chantelle - Volunteer at Aftermath
Chantelle joined Aftermath as a volunteer in late 2025,
bringing with her both extensive care experience and deeply personal
understanding of the challenges families can face.
Leaving school at 16, Chantelle pursued her goal of working
in mental health by completing her NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care at St
George’s Nursing Home. Determined to progress, she self funded her Level 3
qualification while working as a Care Assistant with Age UK Wirral, qualifying
in 2008. Over the years, she worked across the Devonshire Resource Centre and
Meadowcroft Hub and was part of the team that opened Stanhope Court residential
unit. Following the birth of her son Rory in 2014, she returned to work
part-time, balancing roles across residential and day care services.
In 2020, after marrying her husband Chris in Jamaica,
Chantelle faced her own health challenges. During that time, she transitioned
into a role with the Carer Support Team, supporting families whose loved ones
had been diagnosed with dementia. Although it was a change from her previous
roles, she quickly discovered a deep passion for supporting carers and
empowering families during incredibly difficult times.
In August 2022, Chris sustained a traumatic brain injury and
spent nine months at The Walton Centre. He now resides at a specialist brain
rehabilitation unit, where he will receive long-term care. Navigating life as a
single parent while supporting both Chris and her son Rory, who has autism and
juvenile arthritis has given Chantelle profound insight into resilience,
advocacy and the importance of community support.
Her lived experience, combined with nearly two decades of
professional care work, led her to Aftermath, where she feels she has found the
right balance to continue making a difference. Chantelle has also recently
begun studying Counselling Level 2, further strengthening her ability to
support others with compassion and understanding.
Chantelle is passionate about helping families feel heard,
supported and less alone during life changing circumstances.
